Bhubaneswar, February 2: The Open Schools Chess Championship, held in celebration of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja, wrapped up successfully at the Damanai Temple Auditorium in Jatani on Sunday.

Himansu Sahoo from Railway School, Khurda Road, claimed the title of champion, while Smruti Sagar Sahoo and Aditya Prasad Subudhi, from KV IIT Bhubaneswar, secured second and third places, respectively. The tournament attracted nearly 100 students from across Odisha.

The event was inaugurated by Manmath Routary, BJD leader and former BJD MP candidate for Bhubaneswar in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The championship was jointly managed by the Jatani Nagarika Committee led by Manmath Routary, Avinash Baliarsingh, Director of Dream Chess Ekademi, and Suresh Baliarsingh, President of the Jatani Chess Association.

In addition to the chess tournament, the Jatani Nagarika Committee also hosted a Rangoli and Drawing competition, with hundreds of children participating in the festivities.

Earlier this year, Dream Chess Academy and the Jatani Chess Association co-organized another chess tournament on Republic Day, where Naman Raj Singh, Himansu Sahoo, and Aditya Prasad Subudhi emerged as champions.
