Sambalpur, Feb 2: In an effort to contribute Odisha's sports drive, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) unveiled the official logo and race shirt for the inaugural Coal India Bhubaneswar Half-Marathon in an event held in Bhubaneswar. The event, scheduled for March 2, is a key highlight of the golden jubilee celebrations for energy major Coal India.
The move,a part of MCL’s broader initiative to promote fitness and community engagement, underscores the company’s commitment to fostering a culture of sports in the region.
The unveiling event, held in Bhubaneswar ahead of the marathon scheduled for March 2, at the iconic Kalinga Stadium, was attended by Keshav Rao, Director (Personnel), MCL among senior officers from the coal company and other prominent figures, who lauded MCL’s efforts.
Rao said, “The Half Marathon marks a milestone in promoting long-distance running and healthy living in Odisha. The official race shirt and logo not only symbolise the spirit of our event but also our dedication to community development and sports excellence.”
MCL’s Coal India Bhubaneswar Half-Marathon slated to be one of the largest events of its kind in the region, featuring a total prize purse of Rs 45.34 lakhs. As an AIMS-certified event, it will allow runners to use their official timings to qualify for prestigious international races. Participants can choose from a range of events, including a 1.5 km Fun Run (welcoming kids, families, and senior citizens), 5 km and 10 km timed runs, as well as the 21 km Half-Marathon.
The Coal India Bhubaneswar Half-Marathon is expected to attract a diverse group of competitive runners and fitness enthusiasts. Hosting the event at Kalinga Stadium will further highlight Bhubaneswar as a hub for athletic excellence.
