Bengaluru, April 14: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday informed that a special cabinet meeting will be held on April 17 to deliberate exclusively on the long-awaited Caste Census report.
Addressing the media, Siddaramaiah emphasized his government's commitment to social justice.
“Our government will work hard to build the kind of society that Babasaheb Ambedkar envisioned,” he said.
The CM confirmed that the upcoming cabinet meeting will be dedicated solely to reviewing the caste census findings.
The announcement comes amid political controversy surrounding the issue.
Earlier, Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy sharply criticized the Congress-led government, alleging that the sudden focus on the caste census is a diversionary tactic.
“There is no meaning to the caste census report being showcased now. The Kantharaj Commission completed this report nearly a decade ago—why wasn't it acted upon all this time?” Kumaraswamy questioned.
He further accused the Congress of attempting to deflect public attention from mounting dissatisfaction over unfulfilled guarantees, corruption, and inflation. “If the intention is genuine, conduct a new caste survey that reflects current demographics,” he added, warning that politicizing caste could deepen social divisions.
