Bhubaneswar, Ap 8: Odisha observed the 21st death anniversary of the legendary Odissi dance Guru, Padma Bhushan Kelucharan Mahapatra on Monday at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar.
The program included a book lunch ceremony in memory of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. The book, titled " The Making of a Guru: Kelucharan Mahapatara: His Life and Times, originally written by the distinguished dancer Padmashree Ileana Chitrasista. The Odia translation was done by Somesh Mahapatra, and the book was edited by Malvika Patel.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests. Among them were the former Vice Chancellor of Ravenshaw University and renowned lyricist Devdas Chhotray, along with the Chief of the Translation Literature Council Trust, Somesh Mohapatra, who launched the book.
Guruji's niece, Preetisha Mohapatra, and his son Ratikant Mohapatra delivered their heartfelt messages to the audience. The evening also featured performances by three of Guru Kelucharan’s prominent disciples: Guru Manaranjan Pradhan, artist Nandini Ghoshal, and Ileana Chitrasista, who presented mesmerizing Odissi dance performances.
The program was organized by the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, and was supported by Art Vision. Notably, the evening was graced by the famous singer Dr. Sangeeta Gosain, who contributed to the musical coordination of the event.
This celebration not only honored the contributions of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra to the Odissi dance form but also underscored his immense impact on the cultural heritage of Odisha.
