The work will begin after opening of the tender in second week of June. It was decided in the recent Metro coordination meeting.

The Metro route will connect Bhubaneswar airport with Trisulia Square in Cuttack through Capital Hospital, Rajmahal, Master Canteen, Ram Mandir, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Xavier Square, City Centre, Damana, Infocity, Patia, Raghunathpur, Kulasahi and Barang. There will be market complexes, shops and restaurants at all stations, said an official of the project.

Concerned departments have been directed to remove underground water supply pipe, telephone wire and cables along with electric poles from the proposed Metro route for construction of pillars. Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation has signed a MoU with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for execution of the project. The project will be completed in four years and then extended to Cuttack, Khurda and Puri in subsequent phases. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of the Rs 6,255 crore metro rail project on January 1.
