Bhubaneswar, April 14: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has launched an investigation into a baby theft incident involving a blind beggar woman who was resting on the footpath near Sri Ram Mandir on Sunday. A formal complaint was filed with the Kharavela Nagar Police. Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, during a press conference, announced that multiple teams have been formed to locate the missing child, Subham.

According to reports, CWC members have already spoken to the mother of the child, and the police are actively working to locate both the child and the suspect. Three investigative teams have been set up, conducting extensive searches at airports, bus stations, railway stations, and major intersections. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from various locations to aid in tracking the suspect.

The incident occurred in front of the Ram Mandir on Janpath Road, near the Kharavela Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar. The distressed mother, identified as Jayanti Mallick, was seen mourning as she pleaded with authorities to help her recover her 1.5-year-old son.

According to Jayanti's complaint, filed on Sunday and supported by social activists, she had been sleeping with her child near the temple, where she has sought shelter for over five years. In the early hours of Saturday, an unidentified man approached her and offered her juice. While she was resting, he took her baby and fled. By the time she woke up and screamed, locals and social activists rushed to her aid and escorted her to the police station to file the complaint.
