Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: The Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly on Wednesday took renewed membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), formed on December 26, 1997, after the demise of Biju Patnaik in April that year.
Naveen Patnaik, the founder president of BJD, took the first membership at party’s membership drive programme held here at Sankha Bravan. He became a member from Ekamra-Bhubaneswar constituency of Odisha.
He urged party leaders to reach near people and apprise them the developmental works done by BJD during its ruling in the state.
Our schemes are model for other parties. You go to people and explain them the pro-people initiatives taken by BJD government, said Patnaik addressing party leaders and workers.
The BJD launched a campaign from October 9 spanning across two months focusing on enrollment of more members. The effort will be to consolidate the existing members and bring in new members.
The party has constituted a 21-member committee headed by former minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak to achieve the target fixed by party supremo Naveen Patnaik.
