Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: Odisha will soon receive 350 electric buses as part of the 'PM-eBus Sewa' scheme to enhance green mobility. The e-buses will ply in four cities of the state in the first phase.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August approved a bus scheme 'PM-eBus Sewa' for augmenting city bus operation by 10,000 e-buses on the PPP model in 169 cities. The Scheme will support bus operations for 10 years.
The scheme covers cities of three lakh and above population as per the census 2011 including all the capital cities of Union Territories, North Eastern Region, and Hill States.
Four cities of Odisha – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, and Berhampur have been selected under the scheme.
According to the scheme, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Rourkela will get 100 e-buses as the populations of these cities are less than 10 lakh.
Similarly, Berhampur city which has less than 5 lakh population will get 50 e-buses under the scheme.
