Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: Former Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC). The Odisha Energy Department issued a notification confirming his appointment.
In exercise of the power conferred under sub-section-5 of Section-82 of the Electricity Act, 2003 (No. 36 of 2003), the State Government is pleased to appoint Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena IAS (Retired) as Chairperson, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) with effect from the date he assumes the Office,” a notification issued in this regard by the state energy department mentioned.
The position of OERC Chairperson had been vacant since the retirement of Suresh Mohapatra. Jena, a 1989-batch IAS officer, served as Chief Secretary from February 26, 2023, until his retirement on June 30, 2024. He had assumed charge on March 1 and was initially set to complete his tenure by December 31, 2023. However, the then State government extended his tenure by six months, from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024.
