New Delhi, April 12: A major technical glitch disrupted Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services across India on Saturday morning, marking the third significant outage in just 30 days. The disruption affected millions of users and businesses, interrupting a vital payment system widely used for daily financial transactions.
UPI, an instant real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), faced widespread outages on popular platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. Users across the country reported being unable to complete transactions, causing inconvenience in both personal and commercial dealings.
According to outage-tracking platform DownDetector, 2,147 complaints were logged by 12:56 PM, with nearly 80% of users reporting issues while attempting payments. Earlier in the day, 1,168 complaints had already been recorded, underscoring growing user frustration.
The disruption also affected several major banks, including HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, further amplifying the scale of the issue.
In response, NPCI issued a statement acknowledging the problem.
"NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused," it said.
