Bhubaneswar, November 16: Dhenkanal Sadar Block Chairperson Rajshree Nayak of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was ousted after losing a no-confidence motion. Out Of 62 votes , 44 votes were in favor of the motion and 17 voters opposed the motion. .
The motion, initiated by some panchayat samiti members last week, was submitted to the sub-collector. In the days leading up to the vote, sources reported that several samiti members and sarpanches were in undisclosed locations for a week.
The voting process took place at the block office under the supervision of the Tahsildar-cum-returning officer. Notable figures, including Minister Krushnachandra Patra, MP Rudranarayan Pani, and Kamakhyanagar MLA Satrughna Jena, were present during the proceedings.
“A total of 62 members participated in the voting as per the Orissa Panchayat Samiti Act, 1959. Of these, 44 supported the motion, 17 opposed it, and one vote was invalid due to double markings. The results were then officially declared,” stated the Tahsildar.
This development marks a setback for the BJD in the Dhenkanal region.
