New Delhi, Feb 5: For the first time ever, Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of India’s President, is all set to host a wedding ceremony.
RPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta is set to get married to fellow Assistant Commandant Avnish Kumar at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 12, 2025.
President Droupadi Murmu personally approved this unusual event after being highly impressed by Gupta’s dedication and hard work in service.
Who is Poonam Gupta?
Poonam Gupta, who is currently serving as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, is a native of Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri. Her fiancé, Avnish Kumar, is stationed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Their wedding ceremony is expected to be an intimate gathering, and will be attended only by close family and friends. Given the significance of the venue, all guests will undergo security screening.
This event marks the first wedding in the history of Rashtrapati Bhavan, a decision driven by the President’s appreciation for the exemplary conduct of officers serving at the presidential residence. The upcoming ceremony not only celebrates the union of two dedicated officers but also reflects the evolving traditions of India’s highest office, blending personal milestones with national significance.
The wedding news has sparked mixed reactions with many expressing happiness and support for President Droupadi Murmu’s approval of the event and calling it a progressive and heartfelt gesture that acknowledges the dedication of CRPF officers.
However, some have raised concerns about hosting a personal ceremony at such a significant national venue, with critics blaming the BJP for the decision.
