Srinagar, November 3: In a disturbing escalation, terrorists hurled grenades at the busy TRC and Sunday market in Srinagar. The attacks occurred early on Sunday, and details are still emerging as security forces assess the situation.
This incident comes on the heels of intense anti-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley. On Saturday, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, identified as Usman, was killed in a fierce encounter in the Khanyar area. Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, confirmed that Usman’s involvement in the recent murder of Inspector Masroor was discovered during the investigation. Four security personnel were injured in the operation, which ended with Usman's neutralization. Birdi described Usman as a foreign militant and LeT's local commander.
Meanwhile, another encounter unfolded on Saturday in Anantnag district’s Halkan Gali area. Based on intelligence reports, security forces, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF, launched a joint operation. Spotting suspicious movement, troops engaged with the militants after they opened fire. The exchange resulted in the elimination of two terrorists, as reported by the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army. The operation in Halkan Gali remains ongoing.
These back-to-back encounters and recent grenade attacks have prompted heightened security and ongoing vigilance across the region.
