'Homebound' featuring Janhvi Kapoor & Ishaan Khatter selected for Cannes 2025

Mumbai, April 11: Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, has officially been selected for the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The movie will be showcased in the prestigious ‘Un Certain Regard’ section, which is known for spotlighting artistic and unconventional cinema from around the world. The official selection for the 2025 festival was unveiled on Thursday, with Homebound joining a remarkable lineup that includes global heavyweights like Wes Anderson and Ari Aster.

Both Janhvi and Ishaan expressed their excitement on Instagram following the announcement. Ishaan described the role as the “most challenging” of his career so far, reflecting on the special nature of the project: “A film that I knew was special from the moment it entered my life, and my most challenging part yet. This is what dreams are made of: pure intention, grit, compassion, and truth. One of the proudest moments of my cinematic journey thus far. All led by my friend with a beautiful mind and deep empathy, not many possess – @neerajghaywan. This also marks my homecoming with @karanjohar and @dharmamovies after 7 years,” he wrote.

Janhvi Kapoor also shared her joy, calling the experience an honor. She wrote: “A moment where Indian cinema takes over the world. We are honored to announce that Homebound makes its way to the official selection at the 78th edition of the Festival de Cannes in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category. Our hearts are full, and we can't wait to show you all this journey on the big screen!”

For Ghaywan, this marks a special return to Cannes. His 2015 film Masaan, which starred Vicky Kaushal, was also screened in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section and won awards. Homebound, written and directed by Ghaywan, also stars Vishal Jethwa alongside Kapoor and Khatter. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 13 to May 24, 2025.
