Mumbai, April 12: ZEE5, one of India's premier OTT platforms, has officially announced its upcoming original film, Costao, a gripping crime drama headlined by acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Directed by Sejal Shah, the film is inspired by the real-life exploits of Costao Fernandes — a fearless and principled customs officer from Goa who took on one of the region’s most powerful smugglers in the 1990s.
Produced by Bhanushali Studios Limited in association with Bombay Fables Motion Pictures, Costao dives into the high-octane world of gold smuggling, shedding light on an unsung hero whose courage and integrity came at a personal cost. With razor-sharp action, nuanced storytelling, and a morally complex protagonist, the film explores the price of standing firm in the face of overwhelming odds.
Based on true events, the narrative follows Fernandes' lone-wolf mission that thwarted the largest gold smuggling operation into India, challenging deep-rooted crime networks and risking everything in the process.
