It was accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, bringing down the temperatures sharply. The nor’wester rain brought relief from the intense heat, but it also caused a lot of damage, especially in the state capital. Strong winds during the rain uprooted many trees and damaged several parts of the city.

The storm also affected the electricity supply. Power lines were broken and poles fell down, cutting off electricity in many areas. Thousands of people had to spend the night without power, waiting for it to come back.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning are likely to continue in the twin cities today and tomorrow as well. Many parts of Odisha are seeing similar weather because of seasonal changes. So far, weather alerts have been issued for 14 districts in the state.

In coastal and northern Odisha, strong winds of up to 50 km per hour are expected in the next few days. The Met Department further added that this weather could continue for the next five to six days.
People in the affected areas, especially in coastal and some inner regions, are advised to be careful and take safety steps. The weather is expected to improve and become calmer after April 13.
