Bhubaneswar, January 28: Senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik has urged the Odisha government and local police to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of citizens following two recent burglary incidents at his residence and his son’s office, both located in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area.
Patnaik, a former president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), expressed his concerns over the lack of visible action from the police despite raising alarm about the worsening law and order situation in the city.
Patnaik posted on ‘X’ as “I can hardly believe that another theft attempt has taken place at my house. This time, at house no. N/25 in Nayapalli IRC Village. Just yesterday, I highlighted the growing concerns regarding the security situation in Bhubaneswar, but no significant measures have been taken. I urge the government and Odisha Police to take swift and concrete steps to enhance public safety,”
The first incident occurred on January 25, when burglars stole cash, gold, and other valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh from Patnaik’s residence while he was on the first floor. A case has been filed at the Nayapalli police station, and an investigation is currently underway. However, the thief is still at large.
The second incident took place on January 27, when a thief tried to break into the office of Patnaik’s son, Navajyoti, also located at N/25 in Nayapalli. The thief was quickly caught by the police, who identified him through CCTV footage.
