Bhubaneswar, December 29: After a brief respite, Odisha is reviving for the return of cold wave conditions from December 30. The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted a significant drop in night temperatures, ranging from 2°C to 4°C, due to the influence of cold and dry winds resulting from the westward movement of a western disturbance currently affecting North India.
The IMD further noted that the cold spell is expected to intensify in the first week of January. According to the midday bulletin, there will be minimal change in the minimum temperature over the next 24 hours, but it is likely to decline by 2°C to 4°C in the subsequent four days across the state.
In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the night temperatures may dip to around 13°C and 14°C, respectively, this week. Over the past 24 hours, the twin cities recorded temperatures of 16.9°C and 16.5°C, while G Udayagiri emerged as the coldest location in Odisha at 10.8°C.
The IMD has also issued a dense fog warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts until December 30. Shallow to moderate fog is expected in parts of Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sambalpur. Light rain is also predicted in isolated areas of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Deogarh districts during this period.
Residents are advised to prepare for colder nights and reduced visibility due to fog in affected areas.
