Bhubaneswar, February 5: Odisha is experiencing unusually high temperatures, with mercury surpassing 30°C in at least 10 locations on February 5, signaling a potentially intense summer ahead.
Bhubaneswar recorded its first February day above 34°C in two decades.
On Tuesday, Jharsuguda hit 36.4°C, while Sundargarh and Parlakhemundi reached 35.6°C.
This early heat surge has raised concerns, especially after Bhubaneswar saw 16 consecutive days over 40°C last April.
Experts cite global warming, the weakening of the Meru cyclone, and the effects of cyclonic disturbances on rising temperatures.
The World Meteorological Organization predicts prolonged heatwaves this year, with intense conditions expected in Odisha from mid-March to June.
