Cuttack, Jan 13: A youth sustained grievous injuries after getting trapped in the Chinese manja as the use of the banned kite flying string continues unabated in Cuttack city.
The youth has been identified as Aniket Das.
Sources said, the incident occurred yesterday when he was returning home from Trisulia to Cuttack sustained injuries neck, hand, and thumb.
The Additional DCP stated that strict actions will be taken against those found selling and using banned Chinese manja.
Worth mentioning, in 2016, the district administration, responding to the directive issued by the Orissa High Court had put restrictions on the sale and use of dangerous strings and unsafe kite flying after a minor girl died in a mishap near Telengapentha.
Following the direction issued by the High Court, at least 10 safe places are being identified to fly kites in the city.
Locals continue flying their kites on rooftops and roads as well as other public places all around the city. Manja thread can be sighted dangling off trees, poles, boards with sign, even from rooftops and boundary walls or lying along with roads and streets.
