Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the night/minimum temperature across Odisha is likely to plummet by 3°C-5°C from today under the influence of cold and dry air flowing into the state from north.
As per the regional office of the IMD, Odisha will witness intense cold nights as many parts of the state are likely to experience nighttime temperatures dropping below 10°C during the first week of the New Year.
Minimum temperatures are expected to fall across many parts of Odisha, with Phulbani likely to experience a particularly chilly night on Wednesday. Koraput and Dhenkanal are also set to feel the cold, with temperatures forecasted to range between 11°C and 12°C.
Rourkela, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack are expected to experience nighttime temperatures of around 14°C, while Angul may see a slight dip to 13°C. Puri is likely to remain warmer at 16°C, whereas Bhadrak and Balasore are forecasted to record minimum temperatures of 13°C and 15°C, respectively.
Temperatures are expected to drop in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Mayurbhanj starting Wednesday night, bringing a noticeable winter chill to most districts in coastal Odisha as well. Dry weather is forecasted to persist across the state for the next seven days.
The IMD has issued a warning about dense fog in several parts of the state, which is expected to significantly reduce visibility. A yellow alert has been declared for dense fog in four districts over the next 24 hours.
