Mumbai, November 11: The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, accused in a money laundering case, due to his health condition. Goyal, who is battling cancer, had requested bail to undergo necessary treatment.
In May, Justice N. J. Jamadar had initially provided interim bail to Goyal for two months on medical grounds. This interim bail was extended multiple times until today, when the court made the order permanent.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which arrested Goyal in September 2023, opposed his bail request, suggesting he could receive treatment in custody at a hospital of his choice. The ED’s case alleges that Goyal laundered funds, involving approximately Rs 538.62 crore from a loan given by Canara Bank to Jet Airways.
Goyal’s wife, Anita Goyal, was also implicated and briefly detained in the case in November 2023. She received bail on the same day due to age and health considerations but passed away in May 2024.
